Sewer Gators Vote: Heads or Tails?

Posted by casey on May 13th, 2011

I can’t decide! It’s driving me crazy. Tom has expressed his interest in HEADS. I agree. But then on the other hand, I love the mystery of TAILS. Ugh!! So we’re taking it to you, HEADS or TAILS? You call it! Shout-out your votes in the comments. I wanna see some bickering. I need to be convinced of which to pick.
Kick this weekend’s ass everyone!

UPDATE: One of the things that kicked off this HEADS or TAILS confusion was this great photo sent to me by Efra. Forgot to add it. Great find Efra!

  1. HEADS

    — Jesse V on May 13, 2011

  2. definitely heads… the tails shot looks like a palm tree is trying to grow out of the gutters of nyc…

    — raine4398 on May 13, 2011

  3. I gotta go with heads as well. It’s clear and direct, I can see the tails version getting misconstrued although I’ve no problem with it. I think that yellow eyes would be cool too. When are we gonna see this one and what color cap? Cllinks first green hat perhaps?

    — T.J. on May 13, 2011

  4. Heads!

    — glenn jackson on May 13, 2011

  5. Heads. If the name of the team was the Sewer Monsters then sure use something with mystery.

    GPK on May 13, 2011

  6. Heads is an easier read, tails is more mysterious. I say you go for a Clink Room first: Put one logo on the front of the cap, and one on the back. That way you have a logo if you’re wearing your hat forwards or backwards. Just a thought.

    — Kevin Werther on May 13, 2011

  7. Of these two versions, head. But if the rendering/design is going to be improved upon, I like the mystery of the tail. It tells a more interesting story; an urban legend. However, I agree with raine4398, it does look like a palm tree currently.

    Derek on May 13, 2011

  8. Heads. I like the mystery of tails too, but I agree with others, it needs a little work.

    — Ryan on May 13, 2011

  9. Heads. The mystery of Tails could be nice, but the instant impact of Heads can’t be denied. I like the story of a gator popping his head out to scope out some action more than a gator who’s had a rough day and is turning in early for the night.

That being said, an animation starting with the tail slowly sliding down the manhole only to have the head snap out right quick, causing the manhole cover to flip, could be pretty rad.

    Bryan on May 13, 2011

  10. I like Kevins idea, however where would the clink logo go? I think the only problem with the tail is the end is too thin, I think the original rendering didnt have this, it was a bit stubbier. What if head was the first release and should it sell out go with the tail version as an alt.
Bryans idea of an animation is so crazy good..that would be so sick. I miss those clink animation “commercials” for the collabos

  11. heads…. the gators live IN the sewers and crawl out

    — kyler on May 13, 2011

  12. Yay Clinkers! I want the head design, too. I drew the tails and it’s ok, but it always bothered me that there was no logical way for the gator to get in there. If kept as an alternate, I think it would look good on the back of a shirt.

I like the black background a lot. Other choices could be dark grey or dark green, but not sure how well green hats do. Can’t wait to see.

So let’s get that head design plotted, digitized, sampled, tweaked, resampled, approved, ordered, sown, shipped, and put on the site so the world can tote this on their heads.

    — Tom Richards on May 13, 2011

  13. Heads. Both cool and kinda adorable. He’s got a killer smile.

@Tom -With the tail version, we can’t see the crowbar the gator is holding. Or maybe a C.H.U.D. let him in.

    — Dennis on May 13, 2011

  14. Tails, i like the mystery.
Though the design needs some highlights on the tail to make it pop more.

    Q on May 13, 2011

  15. The tail looks for like a fish tail with a fin. Go with heads.

    — Eric W. on May 13, 2011

  16. I say heads. The tail alone is harder to pick up. If more of his behind and a hind foot were revealed then Tails.

    — Aaron Bird on May 13, 2011

  17. heads…makes the name more clear…without heads i would think it was a leaf or something…

    — Kenny on May 13, 2011

  18. Heads!! NYC

    — SLAY on May 13, 2011

  19. Heads. The Tails version is nice but not as instantly recognizable as the Heads.

    — J on May 13, 2011

  20. Heads, though I think tails would make a bad-ass sleeve patch

    Ryan on May 13, 2011

  21. Head – Home Cap
    Tails – Road Cap
If I have to choose heads

    — Gordo on May 13, 2011

  22. Heads definitely

Chris Giorgio on May 13, 2011

  23. Heads – Home Cap
    Tails – Road Cap
I wouold go with heads if one is needed.

    — Gordo on May 13, 2011

  24. I like them both, but the tails version on its own would not be immediately appearant what it was. I know it is a tail now because I associate it with the heads version above it. As Aaron said, if we could see a rear foot it may make it a little more obvious.

Jeff Crupper on May 13, 2011

  25. I really like the idea “tails”, but I think HEADS are much better and more finished than tails.

Szabolcs Tóth on May 13, 2011

  26. heads

    — pineapple on May 13, 2011

  27. Casey, does this have anything to do with the photo i sent u yesterday? hahaha! I love the mystery of the tail, and I would go with adding maybe a hind foot or better definition on the tail.

    Efra on May 13, 2011

  28. heads all day

    — Tyler Barnes on May 13, 2011

  29. Yeah it did! I meant to add it to the post but forgot. I’m going to add it now!

    — casey on May 13, 2011

  30. I say add a foot and go with Tails. Its more subtle and mysterious.

    — Clay on May 13, 2011

  31. Efra, cool find. You sent that with my SewerGators in mind?
It sounds like the overwhelming majority says Heads, though. (yay)

    — Tom R on May 13, 2011

  32. Heads, I think the heads version is better than the tails version because the heads version has more of a Iconic look to it. You want the cap to have a wow factor to it when wear it.

    — Ryan D on May 13, 2011

  33. Yeah Tom, I saw this on the web and I thought about your great sewer gators logo, so I sent it to Casey thinking he might get a kick out of it. I wasn’t trying to stir anything up, hahaha!

    Efra on May 13, 2011

  34. tails.

    — sam on May 13, 2011

  35. So when are we getting some rejects?

    — jesse v on May 13, 2011

  36. My vote is for tails. The tail implies a cool backstory.

    — Dave on May 13, 2011

  37. TAIILS!
    The head is to obvious.
Tails offers a lot more room for speculations.
Go with tails, serious, but you should add a foot or something. Just like the foot on the picture.

    TIMbo on May 13, 2011

  38. HEADS.

    5950addict on May 13, 2011

  39. Heads…..tails for the patch that comes with the hat, it’s as simple as that.

samm mcalear on May 14, 2011

  40. Great to see so much input, haven’t had upwards of 30 comments in a while! I too can’t wait to see some Rejects, there are some heavy hitters in there for real. I think that contest was our strongest to date.

    — T.J. on May 14, 2011

  41. i would prefer TAILS *if* there was a suggestion of a leg in there…

but if the decision is on the designs as is, HEADS.

that being said, the left hand claw on HEADS kinda makes it look like the gator has a funky haircut… distracting in a bad way :OP

    Tanas on May 14, 2011

  42. Heads as the logo on the front then on the back tails

    — Zac on May 14, 2011

  43. Tails.. Heads seem too plan.

    — Quillz on May 14, 2011

  44. I think TAILS with a little tweaking. It’s a more creative, less predictable idea. The manhole cover is so heavy that it looks more like it’s crashing down on the gator as opposed to it popping up from the sewer.

And if you need to justify logically, think of it as the gator left it open when he came out of it, and now he is just returning underground, maybe with a catch. Could be interesting to play with the idea of him dragging a fresh kill behind and you only see his tail and maybe a foot disappearing into the darkness.

In rare sightings of things “rumored” to exist, you will only see a small bit of its existence for a very brief second anyway. You wouldn’t catch the gator at the point of exit, posing for a snapshot in this way. I say TAILS all the way!!

    — Alex on May 15, 2011

  45. Heads.

    — Brian on May 15, 2011

  46. Tails!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Jake 13 on May 18, 2011

  47. i gotta say tails, but add a foot like others have said
