Twin Cities Lake Axolotls Steins

Cooper! I’m going to focus on your Snowmen design. Your other entry was a little too similar to a certain mutant reptile karate group. Snowmen is such a great team name. Why hasn’t that been used for a real team yet? I really love the thought you put into all the symbols and iconography of this design. The “TC” alternate logo is my favorite part of this design. I think it’s a cool idea. I want you to spend some time with that concept. The whole snowman’s not working for me. But the storm cloud with T lighting and the C all locked up is great. For me, before I start designing anything I always look at book for inspiration of what style I should use. Go to Barnes and Noble and look for old design books for font and rendering ideas. Can’t wait to see you make that TC design blossom.

Matt! Hot damn this is a great character and design. So full of life, so fun. I’m getting thirsty just looking at this guy. You’re making me second guess the Hometown League and you got me thinking that we should have gone with the Libations League idea. One-and-done!

David! My son has an amazing book called “Unusual Creatures” and this little bugger is on the cover. I love the retro style mixed with a very contemporary idea of what a mascot could be. How great would it be to see jersey with “Axolotls” on the front? One-and-done!

  1. Thanks OG I think I’ll try to make one hat with just the TC but I might also try to animate the Snowman a little more I wish my font would have showed up.

  2. If you’re using a font for anything, be sure to “Create outlines” (it’s under the Type menu) before you submit your entry. Otherwise I export as I get it and your entry will be under represented. Thanks!

  3. Cooper – I made that same rookie font mistake on my Fukushima Fugu Shadow League entry. So I’d really like to see the font on your revision. Great start!

Matt – I see you went with the original green and gold, nice choice. This could also work on a red, gold and black colourway. Congrats on the one and done!

David – Awesome Bruce Lee stance! Also congrats on the one and done!

  4. C – Nah I don’t have twitter, it’s not as big here as it is in the States. If somebody could throw a link into the comments section, that’d be great.

  5. C – the link looks good! I’d like to see that script font fattened up and included as the heading on your revision. Looking forward to it.

Cheers for the Embats love, I have a few revisions I’m working on at the moment, just hard to decide what way to go with it…

  6. Cooper: It looks like you have a dilemma on your hands: do you go with the TC monogram or the snowman character. There are strong points to each. With the monogram, I like how there are graphic elements representative of weather, as well as the more abstract use of weather pattern elements (like I see on the evening news) to create the C. On the other hand, I love a great character mascot. I think the symmetrical rendering is to his detriment. Give him some motion and energy, any you may have a winner.

Matt: Awesome. Quirky and friendly. Agreed on the Red, black, and gold colors as an alternative scheme.

David: The limited, pale color palette is great. Glow-in-the-dark would be a great surprise. But even without it, the cool gray with a pink splash is unexpected but attractive. Nice rendering, too!

  7. Thanks for the advice Nathan I think I’ll do both and make the Snowman the alternate hat. Ill get them both in and I hope they show both. I’m going to animate the snowman a lot more and add more dots to the TC I think it will turn out really cool. I sent in one new design I think people are going to like. I sent it in on Sunday so it should come out pretty soon. Thanks to everyone who’s giving me advice if you have a suggestion keep them coming!

  8. P. S. this was my first time using illustrator and I think it turned out pretty well. I think I’ve go the hang of it now and the designs will look really cool.
