Alright, here’s the deal.

Anyone can vote. Anyone.

IMPORTANT: Put “SSL VOTE” in the subject line. Your vote won’t be counted unless you put “SSL VOTE” in the subject.

We know who you are. If you submitted a design you get 5 votes. Put them in order. Like this…

Z3
R7
P8
W2
Y4

If you didn’t submit a design then you get 3 votes. Again, put em in order like this…

U5
R9
T3

Submit your vote here…

Casey & Jason

Voting ends on Monday, February 8th at midnight PST. It was a great contest. There are some great entries in there. We’ll have the results for you next week. We’re going to start another league in a couple weeks. Stay tuned. Thanks for making Clink fun. We love seeing your work. Great work everyone!

  • 5 votes per submission, or 5 votes per participant?

  • Good luck everyone.

  • Good luck all.

  • So is it called guerilla marketing or stuffing the ballot box? In this case there seems to be a very fine line…

Posted by Jeff Crupper on February 04, 2010

  • I here ya Jeff. I dont mean to beat a dead horse, but I would have been a lot happier had Casey,Jason and the judges just chose em. Seems like now its gonna be a “how many friends do you have with email addresses” contest. Ah well. Good job to all those that submitted.

Posted by TJ on February 04, 2010

  • Yeah, thats def not fair. I could make 100 fake email addresses and vote for all my entries.

Posted by Eli on February 04, 2010

  • I agree that the voting shoulda been done by Casey and Jason. But its open to the public, so you can bet im telling my friends to vote for me….to me, thats not cheating. Making a ton of fake emails and voting for yourself on the other hand….

Posted by CHRIS on February 04, 2010

  • Well, I won’t be “stuffing the ballot box”, even if it is legal. I will win or lose based on the merits of my design and not on how many people are in my email address book. I can appreciate C & J wanting to make this interactive for people, but maybe fan votes should only count for a small percentage of the vote and C & J’s votes should factor heavily.

  • ^Agreed. However, considering the circumstances, we would be foolish to not tell our friends to cast votes . Not doing so is putting you at a signifigant disadvantage as you have to assume that all the competitors will be doing the same. Unfortunately for me, I dont have that many online friends.
I like Kevins idea for a “weighted” voting system (taking fan votes as a percentage) and then using “professional” judges as the majority percentage.

  • I’m stuffing … I just don’t know whether I should feel guilty about it or not … I am using all of my marketing muscle, but I’m really not … I could pound harder but I feel like designs should win.

Posted by Jeff Crupper on February 04, 2010

  • I only voted once, but I am certainly telling some other people to go vote as well.

  • I’m with Kevin and Derek on this. I would prefer to let our work speak for itself.

Posted by Erik Davila on February 05, 2010

  • Amen Derek. Well put.

Posted by Kevin Werther on February 05, 2010

  • I think it’ll be obvious who’s stuffing the ballots when a bunch of people turn in votes for art done by just one person. “Hmmm. All three of these were done by so-and-so.”
Casey and Jason aren’t elected officials, so they can really do what they want with the results, and I’m fine with that. They are gauging interest, but they aren’t going to put out a crappy hat they don’t believe in.

Posted by Tom Richards on February 05, 2010

  • Letting the work stand for itself would be the admirable thing to do, and at first that was my attitude too. I got thinking though that Casey and Jason are going to want to sell these hats when the contest is over, and one way to ensure that a hat sells well is to know that the designer has the ability to market their designs to people. If you can’t show interest in your designs by being able to drum up votes for them, then what other evidence is there that the design is going te be marketable?

Posted by Jeff Crupper on February 05, 2010

  • ^^^ Nicely put Jeff!

Posted by Eli on February 05, 2010

  • Jeff, I see your point and understand where you’re coming from, however I feel that there is a fine line between getting enough of your buddies to vote and actually selling people on your hat design. I know that if I called up all of my old roommates from college and told them to vote they’d just send the e-mail in without thinking twice or even looking at the design. But I do agree that being able to self-promote and market oneself is a giant next step in this entire process.

Posted by Erik Davila on February 05, 2010

  • Personally I liked the voting from last time where just the competitors were allowed to vote, and would have preferred that PLUS not allowing us to vote for our own designs this time. Given the circumstance though the voting will basically come down to a popularity contest. Since that is the case, the only smart thing to do then IS to tell all your college buddies, friends, etc to vote for you. I tip my hat to anyone who “prefer(s) to let (their) work speak for itself” but that isn’t what the voting instructions said to do, or at least that is not how I interpretted them.

Posted by Jeff Crupper on February 05, 2010

  • Wow u guys are never happy lol

Posted by JSLAY! on February 05, 2010

  • I agree with Erik. There is absolutely no correlation between juking the stats to get more votes and actual marketability of the product. If anything, it could produce the opposite effect. Good, marketable designs could end up getting pushed aside for ones voted on because of personal associations, and not because of artistic or marketable merits. There is a very fine line between making a site like this open and approachable, and having this site become a sham that pushes talented people away. I’ve seen it happen at shirt.woot.com, and I would hate to see it happen here.

Posted by Kevin Werther on February 05, 2010

  • I think the BOTTOM LINE IS: Jeff and Casey have the final thumbs up.

Posted by Eli on February 05, 2010

  • I’m sure you mean Jason and Casey right? I have no say in anything … I’m just a peon around here, and a very low level one at that.

Posted by Jeff Crupper on February 05, 2010

  • Yeah, Jason and Casey, lol…… I was reading your post “Jeff” when I typed that.

Posted by Eli on February 05, 2010

  • I’m sure good judgement will prevail and the best designs will win. At least that is my hope, for everyone’s sake. I’m here to have some fun and hopefully I get a little better with each contest. Eventually I hope to be able to compete with some of the other very talented designers who submit here regularly and have a legitimate shot at getting a winner based on the merit of my designs rather than my ability to get a bunch of friends to vote for me.

Posted by Jeff Crupper on February 05, 2010

  • I really they don’t think they will let crap win even it the crap has the most votes, because they person essentially promoted their caps the best you know…

Posted by Sam McAlear on February 07, 2010

  • Sam,
You should be good bro. You got my vote and im sure plenty more.

Posted by Eli on February 07, 2010

  • don’t put too much into it guys… a logo that we didn’t even vote for won (or placed 2nd), in TSL contest. so no biggie!

Posted by Ry Co 40 on February 08, 2010

  • Speaking of TSL have any of those of you with winning hats heard anything about an ETA of the hats from that league?

Posted by Jeff Crupper on February 08, 2010

  • @eli thanks a ton man!

Posted by Sam McAlear on February 08, 2010
