  • I dont think its time to vote yet. I think this is just to make sure Casey put up the correct version of your design. Then voting starts later.

  • I like the new colors on the Boardroom. (A8)

Posted by Jeff Crupper on January 25, 2010

  • Hm, what if we voted for our top 3 on each ballot? I think voting for only 3 out of all the entries just isnt gonna do it. There are too many great ones. Im curious to what Jason and Casey are gonna do here.

    Posted by T.J. on January 25, 2010

  • Tj there only picking three hats…so why vote for more?? But I do feel what your saying thou! I wish they would do atleast six hats total

Posted by JSLAY! on January 25, 2010

  • JSLAY, if we use the TSL as a reference, Casey and Jason said that they would be producing more than just the first three. So that means that at least some of the remaining 5 TSL finalists would probably be produced at some point.
If this will be the case with the SSL, than it does matter what we choose because what we choose will represent the league. Because the majority of us designers have more than 1 entry in the competition, picking only 3 doesnt give an accurate vote in my opinion cause people will likely vote for their own.

  • Must say, the Taco league was a good idea. But now the Skateboard league is taking it too far. Half the idea’s are horrible and don’t believe anyone would wear these. Please stop!!!!!!!! Every heard the saying “quit while your ahead” please do!

Posted by TJ on January 25, 2010

  • Yea true I already figured people would do that…But iam thinking casey and jason have the final say for the most part when it comes down to it But that chiclets cap u might as well not even vote on it..I think they want that to be in production regardless of the vote outcome…Will see what happens

  • I agree with TJ’s last statement. Taco shop league was so funny and original, but now we’re just seeing odd eccentric hats that would only appeal to a small market. It’s great to get other people involved in the hat designing, but maybe only post pre-screened ones. I’m tired of seeing morphed letters slightly related to skating.

Posted by Robert on January 25, 2010

  • Um, that second statement was not by me. I couldnt disagree more with it actually. I think that as a whole we have better designs than I thought we would upon hearing about the league.

I dont know Slay, you think J & C are like that? They said that they felt our voting was important, if the chicklets doesnt get the votes, it shouldnt move on. Well, thats why I thought we should eliminate the voting process altogether and let them decide in the first place but its all good.

I agree with Jeff about A8’s better color scheme.

  • Sorry about that then TJ. Does this ever happen to anyone else, I pull up the comments section and someones name is already In the name box and their email in the email box.

  • @Robert “I’m tired of seeing morphed letters slightly related to skating”

    lmao

  • @Eli
I was serious! In this ballot alone two W’s and that T thing. Thank you for laughing.

Posted by Robert on January 25, 2010

  • At least give the designers credit for the effort, whether you like the design or not, it might not appeal to you, but it might appeal to a wider audience.
Just being curious, have you designed anything?

Posted by Eli on January 25, 2010

  • ……. and i wasn’t laughing at anyones design, I was laughing at Robert’s statement… because I myself submitted some "morphed letters slightly relating to skating”. So I find it funny that he’s sick of seeing it.

Posted by Eli on January 25, 2010

  • @Eli
You’re right I should be giving more credit. I am no designer, merely a fan. And I know a lot work goes into designing any of these hats. But do you get where I’m coming from?

Posted by Robert on January 25, 2010

  • A8 > A1

these are the two I like and will buy from this group.

Posted by Pat Ross on January 25, 2010

  • chicklets all day on this group. A6 and A8 after that

  • @ Robert
I understand what your saying to an extent, I think youre seeing alot of “morphed letters” because the SSL is more mainstream than the TSL. With the TSL we saw a lot more mascot logos because how were we going to put personality into a league about food with just letters?
Now we have a league about a popular and serious activity, and were getting more letters instead of mascots. Now looking back at it, I wished we did have some more variety with mascots and such.
Perhaps the reason that people didnt go that route was the same reason I didnt, I didnt want my mascots to have to be skateboarding or holding a board or any other skateboarding stereotypes. Whether that was right or wrong remains to be seen but I wanted to make them accessible to non skaters as well as skaters.
When looking at professional skate companies, I rarely saw mascots, I saw alot of interesting designs, letters and such. An I think thats what we have here in this contest too. I think we all did what we thought was going to be appropriate for this contest.

  • “When looking at professional skate companies, I rarely saw mascots”

That’s because they are professional skate companies and not a fictitious baseball league.

True, but this is a fictitious baseball league. It’s a hat that says SSL on the back, people won’t take you as a hardcore skater in any of these hats

  • @Robert
    You must skate huh?

Posted by Eli on January 27, 2010

  • Sadly, I am slightly mentally challenged when it comes to skating, but I surf a little if you give a crap.

Posted by Robert on January 27, 2010

  • Really like the illustration and concept for A4, just not sure about the color though.

Well, I own a small skateshop in Mass and believe it or not, when it comes to skaters simplicity goes a long way.

Posted by Eli on January 28, 2010

  • Eli, youre from Mass? Where at? Im from the Cape.

Posted by TJ on January 28, 2010

  • Iam feeling the wallbats cap!

  • TJ, I’m in Lowell bro! We got some talent here and my store is right across from Hadley skatepark (Manny Santiago, Dave Bachinsky)

Posted by Eli on January 28, 2010

  • Nice! I went to UMASS dartmouth with a couple of cats from Lowell. I never been there myself but Im glad we can represent Taxachusetts in the clinkroom.

Posted by TJ on January 28, 2010

  • That’s good to hear. Do you skate?

Posted by Eli on January 28, 2010

  • Nah, I don’t skate. I have never broken a bone, and have no plans to either. So me and skateboards politely nod when we see each other and thats it. lol
